Nick Davila (born May 22nd, 1985) is a retired American football quarterback and former starter for the Arizona Rattlers teams that went to five ArenaBowls between 2011 and 2016. Though his career was relatively short, he is among the most decorated players in AFL history, due in part to his efficiency as a player and winning record as a starter.

Early Rise to Stardom (2010-11)[]

Prior to ever stepping foot in the AFL, Nick Davila was a star in the AFL sub-league, af2, quarterbacking for the Spokane Shock prior to their arrival to the AFL. Davila led the team to two straight ArenaCup games between 2008 and 2009, winning the latter. With the potential already present in his ability, he was desired by many teams prior to the 2010 season, but ultimately signed with the Arizona Rattlers.

The signing would pay off for the Rattlers, as the team found near-immediate success with Davila at the helm. While starting off with a 2-3 record, Davila's play kept the team within games, with only one of the three losses being decided by two scores or more. He would lead the Rattlers to a six-game winning streak, including a 79-50 victory over the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings where he threw for nine touchdowns with no interceptions and completed 77-percent of his passes. The team ended the season with a 10-6 regular season record and Davila attempted 617 passes, the most he would attempt in any season of his AFL career. In an ironic twist of fate, the Davila-led Rattlers would lose to his former team in the Spokane Shock, who would eventually go on to win ArenaBowl XXIII, in the first round of the playoffs.

After a successful first year, Davila and the Rattlers were poised to strive further with their explosive offensive unit. Receiver Rod Windsor led the charge after a record-breaking year in which he compiled 2,376 receiving yards, an AFL record that still stands today. With the connection between Davil and Windsor, expectations were high to achieve something great. Starting off, the 2011 season proved efficient for the Rattlers as they started off with a six-game winning streak, including two victories against the Tulsa Talons and Milwaukee Mustangs in which they doubled (or more than doubled) the opponent's score. Davila would throw at least six touchdown passes in five of those six games. The team's first loss came once again to the Spokane Shock, who seemed to be the Rattlers' Achilles' heel, in a 69-70 shootout. After a win against the San Jose SaberCats, the team would lose again to the Chicago Rush, 49-50. Afterwards, the Rattlers wouldn't lose a single game for the rest of the regular season, going 9-0 to bring their regular season record to 16-2. Davila threw 64 touchdown passes to only four interceptions during the nine game stretch, completing over 70-percent of his passes five times. The prior season, Davila had a career-high 617 pass attempts; for the 2011 season, Davila had a career-high 70.7-percent pass completion rate.

As the first-seed in the playoffs, the Rattlers clinched home-field advantage for the playoffs, something they didn't benefit from the previous season. The test would come early as their first match was a rematch of the previous year with the Spokane Shock. One would be "shocked" by how easily the Rattlers handled them, considering the circumstances, winning 62-33. The next week saw the Rattlers face the other team to beat them in the regular season, the Chicago Rush, in a game that would send the victor to a trip to ArenaBowl XXIV. While not as easily as with the Shock, the Rattlers avenged their earlier loss with a 54-48 victory, with Davila throwing seven touchdowns to account for a majority of the scoring. In ArenaBowl XXIV, Davila's first and the franchise's sixth, the Rattlers faced the Jacksonville Sharks, a team—led by All-Arena quarterback Aaron Garcia—that only debuted the season before. After a high-scoring affair, the Sharks would go on to win after Garcia threw the game-winning touchdown pass in the final seconds of the game.
