The modern Milwaukee Mustangs is a franchise primarily recognized by the Arena Football League. The team began in the af2 as the Milwaukee Iron in 2009, but after moving into the AFL and playing the 2010 season, a fan vote contributed to the team renaming itself after the since-defunct Milwaukee Mustangs from ten years prior. Despite the familiarity, the team would find limited success afterwards, until eventually folding after the 2012 season from a lack of interest from area residents.
